The Crime of Alcácer is a documentary series, a Netflix original, that provides up-to-date analysis on the murder of three girls that occurred in Spain in 1992: Míriam García, Toñi Gómez and Desirée Hernández.
At the time, the streets became the stage of interest for journalists, who took advantage of the situation to each have fresh news at first hand. The press claimed that the official version, released by the investigators to the girls' families and the public, was not the true version.
In the Netflix documentary series The Alcácer Crime we follow, episode by episode, a mix of recordings from the 1990s with new evidence and conclusions presented.
In between all this, there is much speculation from the family itself and from journalists who, unhappy with the official version of the case, began to share their suspicions publicly. This only added to the uproar already established in Spain.
The series does not use actors to recreate any kind of act, showing respect to the relatives and protecting them from their pain. The use of period images transports us to the moment of the event, allowing us a better understanding about the tools that existed, that were, available, what was done, how it was done.
The series follows a well marked chronological line, where we can follow the various visions of each one of those involved, developing our own perception of the events.
In audiovisual terms, the use of reportages while showing images, going to the places where the acts take place, the search for the creation of a correct environment, all this leads us to want to know more, to stick to the narrative.
